Children and adolescents with autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders often face overlapping challenges: difficulty communicating basic needs, co-occurring medical conditions, sensory sensitivities, and trouble with everyday tasks. For many families and caregivers, these challenges are compounded by repeated care disruptions, behavioral crises, and a lack of appropriate resources.
The New Directions Program at Nexus Health Systems offers a path forward. Designed for young patients whose needs exceed what outpatient programs can safely provide, the New Directions Program delivers structured, hospital-based care rooted in evidence and compassion. Our interdisciplinary team equips patients and families with the tools needed to promote adaptive growth, social development, and a safe return to home, school, and community, because we're committed to mending minds.
Our goal is to reduce maladaptive behaviors, strengthen functional skills, and support lasting independence.
A physician’s order or referral is required for all admissions to the New Directions Program.
The New Directions Program's interdisciplinary team develops personalized care plans that address the full spectrum of each patient's behavioral, medical, and developmental needs, making it one of the most comprehensive inpatient programs available for this population.
We collaborate with discharge teams, case managers, physicians, school districts, and residential transfer coordinators to ensure children are placed in a safe environment that meets their behavioral, developmental, and medical needs. Reach out to our admissions team to discuss placement options and next steps.
The New Directions Program accepts children and adolescents presenting with a wide range of neurodevelopmental, behavioral, and co-occurring conditions. The following represent diagnoses frequently encountered in our patient population.
A physician's order or referral is required for all admissions to the New Directions Program. See referral sources above.
